MENOMONIE, WI (WTAQ) - The State Patrol said a body was recovered late Tuesday morning from a river in Menomonie – and it appears to be that of a truck driver who plunged his rig into the water.
Officials said two people were co-driving their rig going west on snow-covered Interstate 94, when it hit a bridge and fell cab-first into the Red Cedar River.
The truck’s passenger at the time was still being sought at last word.
A rescue team from Hudson was called to lead the search for the two men. The rig is owned by a trucking firm from Lansing Michigan.
Officials said it was submerged in 20 to 30 feet of water.
The incident happened around 3:45 a.m., after the start of a snowstorm that was expected to dump up to 10 inches in the area before clearing out Tuesday night.
Both eastbound lanes of I-94 at Menomonie were closed for most of the morning. Officials say they re-opened around 10 a.m.
