Manitowoc crash leaves 2 dead, 5 injured Sunday

MANITOWOC, WI  (WHBL) - Names of those involved in Sunday's early morning traffic crash that left two people dead and four others injured in Manitowoc have not yet been released.  Manitowoc Police Captain Nick Reimer said alcohol and speed were factors in the collision, which occurred around 2:45am.  Killed in the crash were a 23 year old Manitowoc man and one of his pasengers, a 24 year old Two Rivers male.  A third passenger - a 21 year old Newton man - was initially taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to St. Vincent's Hospital in Green Bay with serious injuries.  The other driver, a 21 year old Manitowoc man, wasn't injured, but was arrested and taken to the Manitowoc County Jail, where he faces two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, one count of causing great bodily harm by driving while intoxicated, and three counts of causing injury by driving under the influence of alcohol.  Reimer said the car was going at a high rate of speed when it failed to stop for a stop sign and struck the other vehicle.  Three passengers in the offending vehicle were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
