WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WTAQ) - A jury has been selected in Wood County in the murder trial of Brian Cooper.
Prosecutors say Cooper killed Alisha Bromfield and her unborn child at a Door County resort, after Bromfield told Cooper she didn't want to continue their relationship.
Jury selection was held in Wisconsin Rapids Friday due to pre-trial publicity in Door County. The case moves back to Sturgeon Bay for the trial itself, starting with opening statements Monday.
Also Friday, Cooper withdrew his plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, according to online court records.
He is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and third-degree sexual assault, as prosecutors also claim Cooper then had sex with Bromfield's corpse.
If convicted of the homicide counts, he would face mandatory life prison terms.
