UNDATED (WRN)   Officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are spending the week checking out possible flood damage in Wisconsin.

FEMA external affairs officer Sandy Jasmund says teams are visiting nine Wisconsin counties, to assess flood damage to public infrastructure caused during storms that hit the state between June 21-27. Jasmund says the teams will be looking at public facilities and infrastructure, such as hospitals, schools, roads, and bridges.

FEMA teams will be visiting Ashland, Crawford, Dane, Grant, Iowa, Richland, Sauk, St. Croix and Vernon counties, which officials estimate may need more than $8 million in assistance.

The assessments are used to determine if the state will seek a federal disaster declaration, which could allow Wisconsin to qualify for financial assistance.
