Convicted sex offender Norbert Maday to live in Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - A convicted sex offender, who's also an ex-priest, has been approved for release from a treatment center and will live in Oshkosh.

In 1994, Norbert Maday was convicted and served his sentence for sexually assaulting teenage boys. The state had him committed as a sexual predator.

Last month, a judge approved a supervised release plan, but details of that plan were sealed

On Friday, the Oshkosh Police Department issued a news release, stating the 75-year-old Maday will be released on or before Aug. 2, and will be living at 747 Bowen St. He will be under the supervision of the state Dept. of Corrections and Dept. of Heath Services. Among the terms of his release: - No contact with victims - No unsupervised/unauthorized contact with minors - No presence in taverns, bars or liquor stores. No use of alcohol or illegal drugs. - May not leave the residence without an approved chaperone for at least the first year. The police department notes that Maday "is not wanted by the police at this time. This notification is not intended to increase fear; Rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public." There are 22,809 registered sex offenders in Wisconsin. Of those, 5,835 are in prison. 5,401 are on active probation, parole or extended supervision. 11,573 are terminated from supervision.

There are 439 registered sex offenders reporting residence in Winnebago County, according to Oshkosh police.
