MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A new law introduced Friday would allow government entities in Wisconsin to charge for time spent deleting confidential information from records requested under the open records statutes.
Opponents say Republican State Representative Gary Bies’ legislation would have a chilling effect on public access to information.
Just last year, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled record custodians couldn’t charge requesters for redaction expenses.
