Hunter Hayes ' self-titled debut album has produced a #1 hit with "Wanted" and earned him three Grammy nods including Best Country Album and Best New Artist. Though he's now climbing the country chart with his latest single from that project, "Somebody's Heartbreak," Hunter is already thinking ahead to how he'll follow up such a successful debut album.
He's been in the studio experimenting with new songs and sounds, but Hunter's not in "new record mode" just yet.
"When I go in for the second record, I want to do it wholeheartedly," Hunter explains. "I'm definitely thinking about it, and I'm preparing for it, but I still kind of see it a ways off just because, you know, for the sake of not rushing, for the sake of not doing it the wrong way."
It's not that Hunter is lacking new material to record for his second album.
He says, "I've written a ton for it. I've gotten like 50, 60 songs for it already. But the first record had anywhere from 60 to 80."
While other artists could just hire a band and lay those songs down in the studio, Hunter's albums take a big longer since he plays every single instrument on them. Hunter does have a top-notch band for his live shows though. He resumes his spot on Carrie Underwood 's Blown Away tour February 13 in Colorado Springs, CO.
