Luke Bryan will be on the road with his Dirt Road Diaries well into the fall, and there are bound to be shows where he feels tired or even sick. After years of opening for country superstars like Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean , Luke has learned that feeling under the weather is no excuse for canceling a show or giving a bad performance.
Looking back on one performance with Tim McGraw a few summers ago, Luke says, "Heck, he almost fainted. We were in Raleigh, and it was about 100 degrees onstage. He just got dehydrated, and when I saw him backstage he was green as a gourd. So, he goes back out and finishes the show."
Another lesson Luke learned from those superstars is how to really show appreciation to the audience for showing up.
"Don’t take any second on stage ever for granted, and take your audience on rides, and let ‘em enjoy it and be a part of it," Luke says of the advice he picked up from his mentors. "You kind of learn that by watching the guys that have been so successful doing that."
