The actress has teamed up with officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to launch the organisation's campaign against dissection in schools and universities.
DeVitto confesses she only took part in the stomach-churning lessons when she was younger because she thought it was compulsory, and she is encouraging pupils to stand up for their beliefs.
In a new PETA advertisement, DeVitto is seen cuddling a cat alongside the slogan, ""You Wouldn't Dissect Her, So Don't Dissect Anyone!""
The actress says, ""(At school) I didn't think I had an option. Kids need to know they have the option - they don't need to be subjected to this... You can do virtual dissection, which gives them just as much information as dissecting a real cat or frog.
""You'll feel so much more proud of yourself if you do stand up for what you believe... there's nothing more valuable than your voice and your own opinions.""
