Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin is officially divorced from his third wife Lois Driggs Cannon after reaching a settlement in court.

Aldrin, who was the second man to walk on the moon, filed for divorce in Los Angeles in 2011 citing ""irreconcilable differences"" for the split.

According to legal papers obtained by editors at TMZ.com, the divorce order was signed on 28 December (12) and she will get half of Aldrin's fortune.

The settlement includes 50 per cent of Aldrin's $475,000 (£300,000) bank account, and 50 per cent of the profits from his businesses, trademarks, and stocks.

Aldrin's ex-wife will also keep her 1988 Mercedes and will receive $9,500 (£5,900) a month in spousal support plus 30 per cent of his annual income, estimated at more than $600,000 (£373,000).

The pair married in February 1988 and has no children.
