ST. PAUL, MN (WCCO-WSAU) - A woman originally from the Wausau area that’s been missing since Friday is now presumed dead, and her husband was in court Thursday. 37-year-old Jeffrey Trevino is accused of killing his wife 30-year-old Kira Steger Trevino last Thursday night or Friday.
Kira Steger Trevino was a 2001 D.C Everest graduate who has been working as a store manager in the Mall of America for the past six years.
Investigators say the couple had marital problems. The criminal complaint also shows evidence of Kira’s car being fueled at a gas station the night she disappeared, and of an unidentifiable person parking the car at the Mall of America ramp and getting into a cab. GPS tracking of the cab shows the rider was dropped off within a block of the Travino home.
Although the body of Kira Trevino has not been recovered, Ramsey County Minnesota Attorney John Choi says the sheer amount of blood found in the couples home and the missing woman’s car and evidence of a violent master bedroom struggle lead him to believe Kira is no longer alive. Jeffrey Trevino allegedly bleached his clothing and sanitized the house along with numerous towels used to clean up the blood.
Prosecutor Choi says technology and good police work unmasked the deception, and provided a great deal of evidence. That is why he is confident he will get a conviction of Jeffrey Trevino in court.
During a Thursday court appearance, a Ramsey County Minnesota judge raised Trevino’s bond to one million dollars. He remains in custody.
St. Paul Police Sergeant Paul Paulos says they are still inviting the public to call them with any piece of information they may have about the Trevino couple. The phone number is (651) 266-5650.
