APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) - A Brillion man accused of shooting his own mother dead and throwing her body in the Fox River in the summer of 2011 was sentenced to life in prison by an Outagamie County judge Wednesday.

35-year-old Randal Rosenthal was convicted in November of first-degree intentional homicide in the death of 52-year-old Kathleen Remter. 

Rosenthal shot her in the back of the head. 

The Outagamie County District Attorney’s office says Rosenthal killed his mother to collect her $586,000 life insurance policy.
