Label misprint causes Nueske's to recall liver pate

WITTENBERG, WI (WSAU) -  A Wittenberg meat processor is recalling over 4,000 pounds of liver pate products. Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats voluntarily recalled the items because they are misbranded.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reports that the 10 ounce vacuum packed packages labelled “Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Liver Pate” contains a milk protein sodium caseinate, which is not listed on the labels and some people are allergic to. The ingredient is supposed to be in the product, but a new batch of labels were printed which omitted the ingredient.

The packages will have 'Est. 8926' inside the USDA mark of inspection. The affected products were produced between December 15 and January 22. There have been no reports of illnesses because of the labelling problem.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Tammy Beran, Nueske's Applewood Smoked Meats Quality Assurance Director at (715) 253-4058.
