Neenah teacher engaged to prison inmate she sent class photo to

NEENAH, WI (WTAQ) - A second grade Neenah teacher who resigned last week after sending photos of her class to a prison inmate was engaged to the man.

The New Lisbon Correctional Institute intercepted a package nearly two weeks ago and immediately told the Neenah School District.

Neenah Police say Tuller Elementary School teacher Christina Peeerenboom has been engaged to 33-year-old Eddie Sanders for four years.

Sanders is serving a 40-year prison sentence for a 1998 conviction of Second Degree Intentional Homicide.

The Appleton Post-Crescent reports police listened to 80 recorded phone conversations between the couple and say their conversations were innocent and there was no wrongful intent by Peerenboom’s package.

The couple would often share happenings in their separate lives.

Neenah police determined the incident was a lapse in judgment and no laws were broken.

In later conversations, Peerenboom told Sanders she understood the district’s concern.

Peerenboom’s package contained letters and pictures drawn by her students to Sanders, as well as a picture of the class with their names.

The students knew of Sanders, but were not told he was in prison.

Students even sent him homemade cards for his birthday.
