The Green Bay Phoenix men withstood the loss of point guard Kiefer Sykes and an 11 point second half lead but still turned back Loyola in Chicago Saturday 73-65. Sykes turned an ankle in the first half and tried to return but couldn't finish the game. Green Bay led by 11 at that point and the Ramblers rallied to take a five point lead at 55-50. Green Bay scored the next 10 points to push back in front and they hung on for the victory behind a career high 25 points from junior center Alec Brown. Green Bay improves to 12-11 on the season and they are 6-4 in the Horizon League.
The Green Bay women absolutely dominated UIC at the Kress Events Center Saturday, 99-53. The Phoenix roared to a 51-21 lead at the half. They shot 57 percent from the floor and were led by Lydia Bauer with 23. Green Bay is now 17-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in Horizon League play.
