OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) - A standoff with a pair of suspected robbers along Highway 41 north of Oshkosh came to an end after the suspects committed suicide.
Winnebago County Sheriff's says it all began when a man with a gun walked in Paynes Point Liquor Store in Neenah just before 4 p.m. and stole cash and lottery tickets.
They suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but were stopped by a deputy along Highway 41 south under the County Highway Y overpass. At that point, the armed suspects refused to exit their vehicle.
Authorities surrounded the vehicle with guns drawn.
Traffic was closed in both directions between Highway 76 to Highway 45 in Oshkosh. Roads, bridges and frontage roads around the scene were also closed.
Winnebago County Sheriff's Capt. Mark Habeck said authorities heard two gunshots shortly after 6 p.m. and upon inspection of vehicle, the two suspects were dead.
The standoff lasted around 90 minutes.
Deputies said they are tried to make contact with the suspects and resolve the situation peacefully.
No shots were fired by law enforcement.
Northbound 41 reopen soon after the incident, but southbound 41 remain closed until around 9 p.m.
