Jake Owen gave such an energetic performance at his outdoor show on Nashville's Music Row Monday night you'd never guess he had part of the ring finger on his right hand amputated earlier in the day. Jake injured the finger in a go-kart accident about a month ago, and it seemed to be healing normally. Jake was even starting to play guitar again, but the finger started bleeding Sunday.

"They just went ahead and amputated the last half of it off," Jake said before taking the stage Monday. "Kinda trying to pretend it doesn’t hurt right now, but it's a little sensitive. Sensitive's a good word."

Jake couldn't convince his doctor to let him keep the infected part of his finger attached until Tuesday, after the concert, which featured guest appearances from Florida Georgia Line on "Summer Jam" and Dierks Bentley , who sang "5-1-5-0" for the capacity crowd. Dierks agreed to perform at the show immediately after Jake texted him the request.

Says Jake, "When I sent him a text, I said, 'Hey man, would you like to come out and sing a song?' I saw the bubble like waiting on him to text back before I could set my phone down. He goes, 'Dude, I'm there.'"

Jake was also excited to shine a spotlight on his current tour mate, Thomas Rhett , who took the stage to sing "It Goes Like This."

Jake says of Thomas, "He's young, and he's worked hard to get where he is. I thought it'd be cool to bring him out and do a song."

In addition to his hits "Alone with You," "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" and "The One That Got Away," Jake performed several new songs from his upcoming album, Days of Gold , due out December 3. The title cut is now climbing the country chart.
