GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Bellin Health has taken over a women’s health clinic in Green Bay and will no longer be offering abortions at the site.
Five doctors with OB/GYN Associates on South Webster will become part of Bellin, and a new similar clinic will open on the site.
The clinic, located in the Medical Arts Building, has been the target of anti-abortion protesters and prayer vigils for over 35 years.
Director of Green Bay 40 Days For Life Jim Ball, a group that held weekly prayer vigils, says this is a day of joy.
“It’s a bittersweet joy, because of the thousands of women who have been hurt at this location and the thousands of babies who have been murdered there,” Ball said.
Ball says they are moving their prayer vigils to the Planned Parenthood clinic in Ashwaubenon.
The location doesn’t offer abortions, but Ball says they are largest provider of abortions in the world.
“We are not here to condemn, but we are here to thank God that this place is closed,” said Bishop David Ricken with the Catholic Diocese Green Bay.
Ricken says Thursday was a historic day because unborn children will no longer be killed in Green Bay. .
