Trial of man accused of killing mom, using her money continues

FRIENDSHIP, WI (WTAQ) - Testimony continues Tuesday in the trial of a central Wisconsin man accused of killing his mother, hiding her corpse, using her credit cards, and writing checks on her account.

61-year-old Larry Clark is charged with 7 felonies in Adams County in the shooting death of 79-year-old Marcella Clark.

Her decomposed body was found in late 2010 near a home in Big Flats where the two had lived.

In Monday’s opening arguments, defense lawyer James Connell claimed the shooting was an accident. He told jurors that the gun misfired as Clark wrestled it from his mother – and it accidentally went off the next day, while Clark was having a hard time breathing as he was still holding the weapon.

The prosecution started making its case by calling a woman who first reported Marcella Clark missing. Jamie Wolms of Hancock said she got suspicious when the victim was nowhere to be seen – and the defendant gave conflicting stories on where she had been.

The trial is scheduled to run all week in Friendship.

Larry Clark is charged with homicide, hiding a corpse, forgery, identity theft, and providing false information about a missing person.
