Waukesha man critically wounded after being shot by police officer

WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) - A 44-year-old Waukesha man is reported to be in critical condition after a police officer shot him early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to a condominium complex on Spring Crest Circle at about 1:45 a.m. about a possible suicidal man.

An elderly couple told police the man had refused voluntary mental health assistance the day before. They were told the man was armed with knives and had threatened to, “cut throats.”

When police arrived, the suspect held the elderly man hostage.

Later, he left the condo and charged at police. They shot him when he refused their commands to drop the knives.

The man was flown to a hospital for treatment. No one else was injured.
