MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A number of humane societies have appealed a judge’s ruling that Wisconsin wolf hunters will be allowed to use dogs under regulations set up by the DNR.

Last year, the humane groups sued the agency, after it approved liberal rules for the use of hunting dogs. The plaintiffs feared that the dogs would die in skirmishes with wolves.

A Madison judge banned the dogs during last fall’s wolf season.

In January, a month after the season ended, Dane County Circuit Judge Peter Anderson said hunters could use dogs – but there would be limits on how to train them.
