Packers safety Charles Woodson out at least six weeks with broken collarbone

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay Packers have lost one of their top players for six weeks, and maybe longer.

Safety Charles Woodson broke his collarbone in Sunday’s victory in St. Louis. It’s the same injury he suffered in Super Bowl 45 in February of last year, which kept him out for more than half of that game in which Green Bay edged Pittsburgh.

The Packers did not report the injury after Sunday’s game. Woodson played for the entire game except the final series – and he spoke to reporters as normal, without giving any hint that he was injured.

Coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the injury Monday afternoon – and he said a six-week absence is a best-case scenario. The coach said he expects Woodson to return before the season ends – and he’ll get every opportunity to do so.

Woodson moved from corner to safety this year in the Pack’s base defense – and he moves into the slot-corner spot on passing downs in Green Bay’s dime package.

Woodson has starred with Green Bay since he joined the Pack in 2006 after a decade in Oakland. He was named the NFL’s defensive player of the year after the ’09 season.
