GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay is taking the next step in the search for its next top cop.
After getting the green light from the Police and Fire Commission Thursday night, Human Resources is now starting to narrow the field of 55 applicants for Police Chief.
Applications came from around the country.
HR Operations Manager Melanie Falk says they will hand over the best candidates to the Commission in the next couple weeks. The commission will interview the final candidates and make a hiring decision.
The city’s Fire Chief position is open as well, but the commission is holding off on filling the position.
A consultant is currently is looking at combing police and fire departments and both chief positions under a public safety model.
Commission President Rob Goldhahn says they were told a feasibility study is expected in the next 30 to 45 days.
