GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A consortium of community colleges including NWTC are teaming up to streamline training for manufacturing jobs.
The group of 16 community and technical colleges have been awarded a $15 million grant through the 2009 economic stimulus law. It’s part of Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College Training initiative.
The money will be used to bring together manufactures, educators and development boards to create a pipeline of skilled workers that fit the needs of area employers.
Deputy Secretary of Labor Seth Harris visited NWTC Wednesday and says this is about creating middle class jobs and careers.
The consortium has a list of 50 employers they are working with that are hiring now and need skilled workers.
NWTC’s Vice-President of College Advancement Karen Smits says they will use their portion of the money to invest in new equipment, developing new curriculum and ways to learn faster and will hire technical staff.
