Brewers slam Padres

It looked like a spring training lineup card for the Milwaukee Brewers but the kids delivered a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres Tuesday night at Miller Park.  The Brewers won with only five hits but got a big one in the third inning when backup catcher Martin Maldanado swatted a grand slam home run.  The 4-0 lead stood up as manager Ron Roenicke trotted out seven pitchers.  Tyler Thornburg started, lasting four innings, giving up a run on four hits.  Manny Parra gave up a couple of runs without recording an out in the sixth, but Jim Henderson picked up the win in relief and John Axford recorded his 35th save in typical Axford fashion.  He struck out the first two batters he faced, gave up a pair of singles and left the tying run stranded at third.   Roenicke kept several starters in the dugout going with Logan Schaeffer in center, Jeff Bianchi at second, Taylor Green at third and Travis Ishikawa at first.  Milwaukee will look to finish the regular season with a sweep, sending Josh Stinson to the mound Wednesday night.  A victory would have the Brewers finish at 84-78, out of the playoffs but not bad considering the team was 54-66 back on August 20.
