The Milwaukee Brewers won't return to the playoffs but at least they'll be a winning team. Milwaukee guaranteed a winning record by beating the San Diego Padres 5-3 Monday night at Miller Park, the team's 82nd victory of the year. Considering they were 12 games under .500 on August 20, the team made a strong push to the finish. The Brewers got home runs from Carlos Gomez, Rickie Weeks with a man aboard and Jonathan Lucroy. Shaun Marcum gave up two runs in six innings to run his record to 7-4. It may have been the last start as a Brewer for the free agent pitcher. John Axford polished off the ninth for his 34th save. The Brewers will send Tyler Thornburg to the mound Tuesday night and wrap up the regular season on Wednesday night.
