Salvation Army sets its sights on $1.2M during Red Kettle run

ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) - The Salvation Army of Brown County has set a goal of raising $1.2 million during the 2012 holiday season through their Red Kettle campaign.

The goal is $50,000 more than last season.

In making the announcement, the Salvation Army’s Capt. Ken Shiels went big with festivities and partnered up Schneider National.

The Ashwaubenon based trucking company donated $5,000.  Associated Bank announced they would be matching all donations collected on Black Friday up to $10,000.

Last year, the kettle campaign and private donations came up short by over $35,000, the Salvation Army even tried adding extra days after the traditional Christmas run to make up the shortfall.

Volunteers are still needed, Shiels says they are ahead of last year, but there are still over a thousand spots to fill.

Besides helping out with the holidays, the kettle campaign provides funding for services to people in need all year round.

Shiels says it’s the easiest way to give to an organization, just dropping in the change in your pocket adds up fast.
