It was a been there, done that weekend at the 40th WIAA State Girls Volleyball championships held at the Resch Center in Green Bay over the weekend. Three of the four state champions were repeat winners. Burlington swept Milwaukee Divine Savior Holy Angels to make it two straight in Division 1, in Division 3, Oostburg made it back to back titles with a 3-1 victory over Oconto. The Lady Dutch dropped the first set but swept the next three for the third state title in school history and Burlington Catholic Central made it two in a row in Division 4 with a three game sweep of Wausau Newman Catholic. In Division 2, Kettle Moraine Lutheran defeated Madison Edgewood 3 games to 1.
In the state football playoffs, West De Pere extended it's winning streak to 39 games with a 25-7 victory over Plymouth. The two-time defending Division 3 champions will meet Waupaca in the semifinals, a battle of two 11-0 teams. That game will be played Friday night at 7:00 PM in Kimberly. In Division 2, Green Bay Southwest had it's unbeaten season end at the hands of Mequon Homestead 17-13. In Division 4, 8th seeded Freedom continued it's improbable run with a 36-7 victory over Little Chute. The Irish will play top ranked Walworth Big Foot next. In Division 5, Brillion routed Racine St. Catherine's 41-6 on Saturday and the Lions will play Lancaster in Middleton next Saturday at 1:00 PM. Hilbert is also in the final four in Division 7 after beating Owen-Withee, last year's runner up, 13-12. The Wolves travel to D.C. Everest Saturday at 12:30 PM to face Glenwood City.
