GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Green Bay City Council unanimously voted against outsourcing school crossing guards services at last night’s meeting. The proposal was a cost cutting move for taxpayers, but it was not clear how much money would be saved. The City Council voted to not offer a contract to Per Mar Security Services, based in Davenport, Iowa. Alderpersons raised concerns about reliability, no solid plan from the company about nuisances in providing the service and city workers would almost definitely take a pay cut. Right now, crossing guards have union representation as part of the Teamsters Union. But after state lawmakers and the governor eliminated collective bargaining privileges for most public unions, it allowed the city to consider the move to privatizing the responsibilities.
