GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The Department of Workforce Development released revised jobs numbers for 2011 a couple weeks ago, and this week claimed they were verified by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  But that’s not true.  BLS Communications Director Gary Steinberg says what they did verify was the proper submission of the data.  “Each state submits a data file to BLS, BLS reviews the data file for completeness, once we agree the file is complete; we’ll send an email saying we accept the data submission.”  Steinberg said.  Governor Scott Walker touted the unoffical jobs numbers as being verified but that’s not the case.  BLS says they still need to review the numbers and will officially release the numbers for publication on June 28th.  “States are always allowed to comment on their data at any time, so they can discuss 4th Quarter 2011 data, but BLS can’t, not until our official release date to do so.”  Steinberg said.  The DWD says Wisconsin actually added 23,680 between December 2010 and December 2011.  That’s compared to the 30,000 jobs reportedly lost according to preliminary survey data from about 5% of businesses.  The revised numbers released by the DWD and touted by Walker are from a survey of about  95% of businesses from around the state. Economists and industry experts say the larger survey of businesses, and BLS publication is the most actuate data on job creation when it is published.
