MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - As of earlier this year, Milwaukee still had some of the lowest air fares in the nation – but they were rising fast.
Federal officials said Thursday that the average fare for a round-trip domestic flight out of Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport was just over $313 at the end of March.
That was down from the national average of almost $373 dollars. But it was almost 12 percent higher than the same time a year ago.
Milwaukee had the 10th largest increase in average among the country’s 100 largest airports. Still, Mitchell’s average fare was the 14th lowest.
Madison’s average domestic fare was the 8th highest, at almost $455 for a U.S. round trip.
