SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - Preliminary results from Tuesday’s Mayoral recall election in Sheboygan have ousted Bob Ryan from office. Unofficial results show former state Rep. Terry Van Akkeren winning 53% of the vote with Mayor Bob Ryan getting 46%. The recall election was a first for the city of Sheboygan. The recall effort began at the suggestion of Mayor Ryan who was also facing removal by the city council. The recall stemmed from a weekend of drinking in July 2011 that involved him being photographed passed out on a bar, making unwanted and vulgar advances towards women and getting into a scuffle with a bar patron. Ryan had two previous run public alcohol adventures since being elected in 2009. One excursion was videotaped and placed up on YouTube. Once the recall was ordered, the city council suspended its removal proceedings which would have involved a public hearing. Van Akkeren will serve out the remainder of the Ryan first term that ends in April 2013.
