The Green Bay Phoenix met Marquette for the 12th time in their college basketball intrastate rivalry but for the first time, they played at the Resch Center and it was worth the wait.  The Phoenix pulled off the upset of the Golden Eagles 49-47 before 6733 fans.  Sophomore point guard Kiefer Sykes led the way with 20 points, Greg Mays put up 11 and 7-1 center Alec Brown scored 9 with a game high 7 rebounds.   Green Bay coach Brian Wardle, a Marquette alum and the school's third all-time leading scorer, was down to 8 healthy bodies for the game.  Several backups were nursing injuries and starting forward Brennan Cougill missed a second straight game because of a team policy suspension.   With low numbers and facing an up tempo Marquette team, Wardle played almost exclusively in a zone on defense.  The strategy worked.   Green Bay built a 25-16 lead in the first half but Jamil Wilson caught fire for the Golden Eagles with a trio of three point baskets giving Marquette a 31-29 lead at intermission.  The pace of the game slowed even more in the second half because of lengthy posessions and poor shooting.  The teams combined to make just 11 of 42 field goals in the second half.  Marquette managed only 16 second half points.  Brown knocked down a baseline jumper with just over two minutes to play giving Green Bay a 47-44 lead.  A Mays free throw made it a four point lead but Davante Gardner finished off a three point play.  Marquette had one last look for the win but a three from Jake Thomas missed, Brown secured the rebound, was fouled and made one of two free throws with 1.5 seconds left for the final result.  Green Bay improves to 4-7 while Marquette drops to 7-3, still in search of it's first road win of the season. The Phoenix homestand continues against South Dakota at the Resch on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
