Upcoming Red Cross Blood Donation schedule announced

MADISON, WI (WSAU) The American Red Cross reminds us that January is National Blood Donor Month Every day, around 44,000 pints of blood are needed in hospitals to help treat trauma victims, surgery patients, organ transplant recipients, premature babies, cancer patients and more. Red Cross officials say January is especially challenging because of inclement weather and seasonal illnesses.

Here’s a schedule of upcoming blood donation opportunities:

Clark County

Jan. 4 from 12:15-5:15 p.m. at Missionary Baptist Church, 302 N. MainSt. in Greenwood, Wis.

Jan. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 73, 6 Boon Blvd.in Neillsville, Wis.

Jan. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Abbotsford High School, 307 N. FourthAve. in Abbotsford, Wis.

Jackson County

How to donate bloodSimply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make anappointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply forpatients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are requiredat check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weighat least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High schoolstudents and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain physical guidelines.
