WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - You could say it's a group of concerned citizens trying to reach their Congressmen, or you could say it's the political campaign that never goes away. Whatever side of the political isle you're on, expect to see carnation and candlelight vigils Monday afternoon and evening in front of the offices of Wisconsin Congress members and at labor halls around the state.
The AFL-CIO labor union calls it part of a national day of action. They will be repeating their message to make no cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security while supporting President Obama's tax increases for the top two percent of earners.
AFL-CIO members and supporters plan to gather in Appleton, Janesville, Kenosha, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Wausau and Wisconsin Rapids to lobby Congress at local offices. The pro-Democratic party gathering has a special show planned for 7th District Congressman Sean Duffy's office in Wausau. At noon, they plan to sing their own version of Christmas carols and hand out lumps of coal, since they believe he doesn't support "worker-friendly legislation." Duffy won re-election last month after an expensive and sometimes bitter battle against Patrick Kreitlow that featured several large, out-of-district campaign contributions.
The following is the schedule released to the media by the AFL-CIO:
