In advance of Thursday night's pre-season opener against the Chargers in San Diego, Packers General Manager Ted Thompson signed two new players to the roster. Offensive tackle Reggie Wells, a 10 year veteran, is joining the team. Wells began his career with Arizona and started 90 games for the Cardinals. He moved to Philadelphia and played last year with Carolinia, appearing in five games. Starting left tackle Marshall Newhouse has been out a week with a concussion and the Packers may be concerned about the young and inexperienced backup offensive linemen in camp. Green Bay also signed receiver Andy Brewer, a first year player from Northwestern who played in the United Football League before working in the Philadelphia Eagles camp this summer before getting cut. To make room, the Packers released guard Jaymes Brooks who never did practice in camp after failing his physical and tackle Mike McCabe was placed on injured reserve after injuring his hip during camp.
