MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The biggest threat for having your identity stolen may be right there in your house. A spokesperson for the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups says almost 60% of all identity theft cases in the state last year were carried out by family members. The 50,000 cases included parents using a child’s social security number to get credit cards, all the way to people using the bank account information of an elderly relative. A coalition spokesman says there are likely many more ID theft cases not reported because the victim doesn’t want to get a family member in legal trouble. The coalition plans to hold training sessions early next year to help people avoid being the victims of identity theft.
