Let's just call 2011 the year of Katy Perry. It's certainly looking like a stellar year for the pop singer, who not only stars in the box office hit The Smurfs and holds the record for four VMA nominations in a single year, but now she's making major music history! Perry recently scored her fifth Number 1 hit single off her platinum-selling Teenage Dream album, a feat only accomplished by the late Michael Jackson. ""Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"" recently climbed from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Pop Songs Billboard Charts following her other hit singles ""California Gurls,"" ""Teenage Dream,"" ""Firework,"" and ""E.T. (Feat. Kanye West).""
This extraordinary accomplishment should really come as no surprise to dedicated Perry fans. Before this album's huge success, the singer scored two No.1's from her prior album, One of the Boys with successful hits ""Waking Up in Vegas"" and ""Hot N Cold."" As of right now she ties Lady Gaga and Pink for second-most No. 1 hits, only one song shy of Rihanna's record-breaking eight No. 1's. If this impressive hot streak continues Perry could very well end up surpassing the King of Pop's legendary record and truly raise the bar in pop music worldwide. With all these accomplishments it certainly looks like the singer will have some celebrating to do this Friday night.
