DTE Energy Music Theatre — recognized as one of the most attended amphitheaters in the country — is located in Clarkston, Mich.
Originally known as Pine Knob Music Theatre (due to its proximity to the nearby Pine Knob ski area and golf course) when it opened in June 1972, the 15,274-seat amphitheater (7,202 seats in Bud Light Pavilion; 8,072 on the Verizon Lawn) recently celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012.
Palace Sports & Entertainment purchased Pine Knob in 1990, revamping the venue with various improvements, all while continuing to give its fans one of the busiest and most diverse performance schedules its fans expect. The venue became DTE Energy Music Theatre in 2002 when DTE Energy purchased the naming rights to the amphitheater.
Named the nation’s most attended amphitheater by Amusement Business/Billboard for 21 years, the venue’s season opens each Memorial Day weekend with classic rocker Eddie Money — a perenniel favorite as the venue’s traditional opener since 1992 — and concludes each September or October.
For the 2012 season, DTE received a full slate of new upgrades, including a new state-of-the-art audio system — the Meyer MILO Line Array sound system. It provides enhanced audio quality and is fully suspended above the stage to allow improved sightlines for DTE fans. The amphitheater also beams with forest green colors, new signage, expanded food offerings and a new open-air beer garden known as The Pine Tap.
The Pine Tap, located just inside the West Entrance, is open to all ticketholders before, during and after the show. It features an extensive offering of more than 20 world-class craft, retro and traditional beers, full bar service and a food selection of sliders, dogs, brats and Mexican food.
