Sturgeon Spearing is here!

by Randy Allen

The excitement is here with the start of the Sturgeon spearing season on Lake  Winnebago. Conditions should be ideal with thick ice, snow cover, and clear water down to 14 feet, some trophy sturgeon are likely to be taken.

The harvest cap is 320 adult femails and 745 males for a total of 960 sturgeon.

More than 11,000 licenses were sold for this season, so it will be crowded in many areas.

Remember there are new spearing hours in effect for this year!  You can legally spear from 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM, and you'll have until 2:00 PM to register you sturgeon.

If you're lucky to get a sturgeon, email your photo's to Randy.Allen@wncy.com.

Good luck and be safe!
