A sad ending to a true story! The elk featured in a viral online video playfully head-butting a photographer has been put to sleep after National Park officials decided he was a safety threat.
The elk was euthanized due to the YouTube video that was posted in late October, that showed him head-butting the man who was sitting along a trail taking photographs.
The photographer was not injured, and the video was viewed over a million times.
A rep for the Great Smokies National Park said the difficult decision to put the elk to death was made after they failed to keep it away from people failed.
She said visitors have been feeding some of the elks, causing the wild animals to lose their fear of humans.
