New Universal monster toys released

by Greg Belfrage

Halloween is just around the corner and Diamond Select Toys is out with new toys based on Universal's classic monsters!

There are two new offerings in Diamond's Universal Monsters Select series. The new seven-inch figures come with accessories and deluxe bases, as well as the official likenesses of actors Lon Chaney and Boris Karloff!

The first is Lon Chaney as Quasimodo, from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1923). Quasimodo comes with removable cape, crown and scepter, plus a cool gargoyle base.

The other features Boris Karloff as Dr. Jekyll from "Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1953). The figure features a removable hat, coat and cane; interchangeable Mr. Hyde head and hands; and a lab table display base with equipment.

Previously released figures in the Universal Monsters Select series include Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Metaluna Mutant and the Phantom of the Opera.

Also new in October are nine-inch bust banks of The Bride of Frankenstein and The Wolfman! These aren't toys for the kids. Suggested retail price on these black and white beauties is $22.99 each.
