Braun Isn't Going Anywhere

by Tom King

There has been speculation in the national press that the Milwaukee Brewers are going to be trading Ryan Bruan. One deal being floated is Braun to the Mets for Ike Davis. Doug Melvin denies that this or any other deal is happening. He must chuckle when he hears the so-called "experts" suggest that the Brewers would get rid of Braun for ten cents on the dollar because of all the bad publicity of the PED scandal. A healthy Braun is still one of the best hitters in the game and will be the centerpiece of a pretty good everyday lineup for the Brewers in 2014. They obviously have to improve their pitching (it seems we say that every year) and also have to decide on first base (will Corey Hart return). I would also hope that they make the decision to start Scooter Gennett at second base and either trade Rickie Weeks(if they can find a taker) or use him off the bench. Baseball's winter meetings will happen in a couple of weeks and there should be alot of trades this time around. It has already started with former Brewer Prince Fielder heading to Texas for Ian Kinsler in one of those trades that should help both teams. If you're a Brewer fan and cant get past the fact that Braun used PEDs and lied about it...you probably will have to find another team to follow...because in my opinion...the Brewers and most fans will have a short memory...especially if he starts mashing again in the spring.

The Badger Basketball team is 5-0 and scoring points at a pace not seen in Madison for some time. They have tallied 192 points in two games this week. Frank Kaminsky puts his name in the record book with 44 points. I saw them play last Saturday at Green Bay and if you get a chance you should head to the Kohl Center and check them out...pretty entertaining.

Will Aaron Rodgers return this season? Some are suggesting that he not risk a re-injury to the collar bone and stay out if the Packers lose this Sunday to the Vikings. It's not going to happen. Rodgers is too competitve to sit if he's healthy enough to be on the field...even if the chance of making the playoffs is gone. And the Lions and Bears are both mercurial enough to go into a losing streak in December and allow the Pack right back into the mix. I think he'll be back for the Falcons game at the latest.

Congrats again to the Pointer Volleyball team as they make it to the D-3 Final Four. They won last night in three straight games over Hope College on their home floor in Holland Michigan. They afce the #3 ranked team from Cal Lutheran tonight. The other teams are top ranked Calvin College and #7 Emory.

Marshfield's Daulton Varsho will be heading to UW-MIlwaukee to play D-1 baseball. I saw him a bunch this summer in legion ball and he can flat out rake.
