The Green Bay Packers endured a second straight overtime loss, this one at Lambeau Field to the Miami Dolphins 23-20 on a picture perfect day before 70,851. The Pack was far from perfect however in falling to 3-3. The offense continues to sputter like a 4 cylinder engine with 2 bad plugs. Their only touchdown until the final seconds came a snap after Tramon Williams intercepted Chad Henne late in the first quarter and Aaron Rodgers hooked up with Greg Jennings on a beautiful 86 yard post pattern. It was Rodgers who tied the game with :13 left in regulation on a heads up quarterback sneak in spread formation on 4th and goal from the 1. In between, the unit again struggled on third down, converting only 3 of 13 opportunities. They turned it over once on a Jason Allen interception and with no threat of a running game (17 carries, 62 yards from the backs), Miami dropped in two deep coverage and put up a disciplined pass rush to keep Rodgers in the pocket, sacking him five times. Defensively, playing without 5 opening day starters (Clay Matthews, Brandon Chillar, Nick Barnett, Ryan Pickett and Morgan Burnett), the unit fought gallantly. Miami ran the ball well (150 yards) and controlled the clock for nearly 38 minutes. Chad Henne found Brandon Marshall 10 times for 127 yards. He connected with Devon Bess on a two yard touchdown to give the Dolphins a 7-3 first quarter lead and the backbreaker was a fourth quarter screen to tight end Anthony Fasano that opened wide when Henne rolled to his right, hung on until a blitzing Nick Collins closed and floated the ball back left to Fasano who ran in 22 yards untouched. The score made it 20-13 Dolphins and came 4 plays after a hotly contested penalty. Robert Francois, just added to the roster last week was flagged for lining up over the deep snapper in punt formation. It took Ed Hochuli's crew the ensuing TV timeout to figure out the infraction and the five yard formation penalty gave the Dolphins new life. Francois claimed he was beyond the 1 yard zone from the center but Miami cashed in the break. The Dolphins won the overtime toss but punted and another penalty on the return backed the Packers up to the 16. After Jackson gained 4 on first down, Rodgers was flushed from the pocket on second down and on third, Cameron Wake delivered his third sack of the game. Tim Masthay's punt was a dreadful 37 yards and Miami needed to move only 26 yards for Dan Carpenter's game winning 44 yard field goal. Here's what the Packers had to say about it after the game:
