2010 Relay For Life of Heart of the Valley

What:

a “huge compassionate support group” – a place where friends, family and loved ones join together to

celebrate survivorship and to honor those who have lost the battle with cancer. The Relay For Life

event consists of teams of 8 to 15 people who spend 16 hours together in an effort to raise money to

fight cancer. The objective is to have at least one member from each team walking or running around a

track for the entire event. However, most of their time will be spent listening to music, participating in

a variety of activities, and enjoying the company of their friends, family and co-workers. The Relay For

Life is truly an event that builds friendship and camaraderie among co-workers, neighbors, friends and

family by bringing them together to have fun and raise money for a good cause.

The Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s National Signature Event. It has been described as

History:

over 3 million participants, the Relay For Life raised over $405 million at 4,772 sites across the nation.

The Midwest Division (WI, MN, IA, SD) raised over $27.4 million dollars at 387 sites in 2007 alone! Last

year, the local Heart of the Valley Relay for Life raised over $ 63,000!

Relay For Life was the idea of Gordon Klatt, M.D. In 1985, Dr. Klatt ran and walked for 24 hours on a

A special candlelight ceremony pays tribute to those who have been touched by cancer. Before and
