For the past three years, Green Bay Police Officer Tom Roberts has helped raise nearly $10,000 for fallen police officers through his involvement in Tour de Force (TDF). This non-profit New York based charity was created after 9/11. Their mission is to honor the victims of 9/11 by keeping their memory alive through cycling events and to raise funds, to benefit the families of police officers, who were killed in the line of duty, each year, nationwide, making the ultimate sacrifice. In 2007, Officer Roberts participated in the Tour De Force 9/11 Memorial bike ride and raised $4,330. Officer Roberts joined 150 other police officers from around the United States and Canada for a four-day 250 mile bike ride. The ride started at New York’s Yankee Stadium and ended at Boston’s Fenway Park. Shortly after returning home from the ride, Officer Roberts presented a $5,000 check to the family of Kenosha County Deputy Frank Fabiano. On May 16, 2007, Deputy Fabiano was murdered while conducting a traffic stop. Officer Roberts presented the $5,000 check to Deputy Fabiano’s surviving spouse. Seeing the difference that he was able to help make, Officer Roberts committed himself to another TDF ride. In 2008, Officer Roberts increased the amount he raised to $5,500. Another 150 officers participated in this ride, which went from the Pentagon in Washington D.C. to Ground Zero in New York City. Then, in 2009, Officer Roberts traded in his bicycle for the keys to a support truck and brought along his camera. In his supporting role, Officer Roberts got a “behind the scenes” look at TDF and took thousands of photos, which are now posted on their Web site: http://www.tourdeforceny.com/default.asp TDF Central Regional Coordinator Tom Roberts visited Tampa, Florida recently and presented a check for $5,000 on behalf of the TDF to Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor, to benefit the family of Cpl. Roberts and honor his ultimate sacrifice.
