So this isn't much of a normal entry from me, but more of an "I need to share this experience with you"...
I had the most randomly weird weekend of ice fishing! It was soo bad but yet good it really is humorous! First went out saturday afternoon on a whim with a buddy from Highschool and we caught perch, good...But a few that we caught I wondered how the heck we even got them onto the hook? Most bait I use is bigger than these things! Quite entertaining though!

Then yesterday I went out on a body of water that I am all very familiar with Little Stugeon Bay in Door County. I spend most of life fishing this body of water infact have a trophy 24" smallie I pulled out of there about 8 years ago, but anyhow back to the story.
We went up and battled the wind...and if you've ever fished on "the big pond" you know what wind I'm walking about the one that makes your lips freeze and eyes litteraly burn as they are freezing! So we took out a portable shack and really just sat and watched tip-ups for northerns. Well not even 5 minutes in the shack and I had one nice 24"er on my jig pole but had it spit the hook at the hole! Frustrating!
So I said a few choice words to myself and continued on...and before I get to the weird part about the day, I have to set up the story with the fact that the best part about fishing on the bay is that really you never know what you're gonna catch...
So after about an hour I go out to check tip-ups and the very first one I check as I'm pulling it up feels a bit like I'm picking up a coffee cup off the bottom...weight, more than I know the bait was. But not fighting at all???

And to my suprise, it's a 18-20" salamander! WHAT!?! is my first thought? I have seen really small "mud dogs" but never one that huge! And I figured they are bugs and what not...Not a big minnow! Kinda crazy!?!...So here's the Trophy of the weekend...
The rest of the day was just a buch of BS'in and watching the wind blow and pike grab and go with tip-ups! Had another one grab the minnow I was jigging, run the drag, and steal the minnow. Nothing caught! Would have been a bummer had we not had the Salamader Story to tell!
