Woman Wants To Be A Paraplegic?

Posted by Abby Crawford on

A Utah woman has Body Integrity Identity Disorder, which means that she desperately wants to be a paraplegic.

She grew up with an aunt who became paralyzed after a biking accident, and having the disability herself became an obsession.

She did all sorts of dangerous stunts to try to break her back, and a couple of times she came close to actually becoming a paraplegic.

Once she was diagnosed by a shrink, her cure was to start living her life on four wheels and to pretend that she really was paralyzed. Being in a wheelchair helps her to stop daydreaming about how she could break her back. She thinks it has saved her life, but people don’t seem happy that she’s ‘faking’ being handicapped when so many people truly are.
