Bride Or Bridesmaid?

Posted by Abby Crawford on

Dear Abby,
My friend & I were asked to stand up in a mutual friend's "wedding" (I use quotes as they were already married in a court house this past January, and are now doing the whole church thing and renewing their vows, but it's exactly like a traditional wedding). The "wedding" is the first weekend of July, and nothing is prepared! My friend & I have asked many many times on what we can do to help speed things along, but she refuses to make any kind of decisions. With the "wedding" so close we are beginning to get a tad stressed out, and it's not even our wedding! We both know we could have turned down being in the wedding party, but neither of us had the heart to say no at the time, and now we already have our expensive dresses and there's no turning back. We don't want the wedding to fail, but we're not being given anything to help with, and the bride is very picky on what she wants but is also indecisive. Any kind of advice in general would be wonderful!

Dear Beyond,

Here's the deal....it's not your "wedding", so don't worry about it! That's the beauty of being a bridesmaid. If something doesn't go right, people don't usually blame the bridesmaids. Of course you didn't say no to standing up in her "wedding", you're a great friend and you wanted to stand next to your friend on her "wedding" day. The fact that you're offering help and she's denying you is out of your hands. You are doing all you can, and that's all anyone can ask for! Don't let someone else's "wedding" freak you out. It's not your day. Let her do what she pleases and if something fails, she knows why. Remember, you're a great friend for trying to help, but some people like to do things their own way. This situation is out of your hands and let that be a relief to you. ;)
