It sounds like your short-lived boyfriend got spooked because of the whole "official" thing. Commitment got the best of him and he ran away. That is just how this guy is. They can either commit or they can't. I would try your best to talk to him to see what he has to say, but if he continues to ditch you and ignore your concerns, then you shouldn't waste your time with him anymore.
